The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team focused on building advanced software for scientific computing and materials discovery. This is a deeply technical role for someone who thrives on backend architecture, performance optimization, and large-scale data processing. You will be a key contributor in developing backend infrastructure that enables cutting-edge scientific research.

Job Scope

• Design and develop backend services for complex scientific simulations

• Optimize APIs (REST and GraphQL) and manage data flows across systems

• Build scalable infrastructure using MongoDB, Docker, AWS (Lambda, EC2, S3)

• Collaborate with fullstack developers, product engineers, and researchers

• Ensure backend performance, scalability, and reliability for high-load environments

• Translate scientific needs into practical backend solutions

Ideal Candidate

• 10+ years of backend experience – Python or Node.js preferred

• Strong in system design, performance optimization, and database architecture (MongoDB)

• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

• Fluent in backend development, not looking for fullstack roles

• Able to position yourself as a Product Engineer – with a mindset beyond just code

• Comfortable with a fast-paced, work-focused culture (limited work-life balance)
